Providence S.A.F.E., Theresa Muncy, Nurse (SANE)

Theresa Muncy has been a nurse for over a decade and certified as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) at the state and national level since 2019. She serves as an Instructor for Oregon’s Sexual Assault Training Institute and as Chair of Oregon’s SANE Certification Commission, passionately educating Forensic Nurses and supporting their delivery of high-quality, survivor-centered care statewide. Dedicated to Providence's medical-forensic department since its inception, Theresa recently stepped into the role of SAFE Program Supervisor.

The Providence SAFE Program is a regional department providing medical-forensic care to patients who have experienced violence of all kinds. Since its founding in 2022, their team of Forensic Nurse Examiners has cared for thousands of survivors, providing specialized medical treatment, forensic services, and connections to advocacy and community resources.

In January 2025, the team opened the Providence SAFE Center, a calm, private space and a welcome alternative to the typical emergency department setting. The only clinic of its kind in Oregon, the SAFE Center is staffed by specially-trained providers, nurses and medical assistants who offer survivors ongoing follow-up care and support along their healing journey. Whether the team sees a patient in the clinic or the hospital setting, care is trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and customized to the unique needs and goals of each patient.
