Our Organization

Soroptimist International of Portland

Our Core Values

Around the world, women and girls continue to face barriers simply because of their gender, experiencing higher rates of poverty, discrimination, and limited access to opportunity. Soroptimist exists to address these challenges head-on. As a global organization led by women, for women, we are dedicated to empowering women and girls through access to education. Decades of experience have shown us that education is the most powerful tool for creating lasting change. When women and girls are educated, they gain the ability to make informed, healthy choices for themselves, their families, and their communities. Education opens doors to opportunity, independence, and a brighter future.

Our Members

At the heart of our organization is a shared commitment to service. Our members are always looking for meaningful ways to give back—especially to women in need—and to build lasting relationships within our community. Through our Hands-On Committee, we organize group volunteer opportunities where members come together to make a tangible impact. These work parties not only allow us to support local causes but also strengthen the bonds among our members as we collaborate, socialize, and serve.

Membership

Each project reminds us of the difference we can make when we work together—and keeps us connected to the needs of the community we’re proud to support.

Advocating for human rights and gender equality, at the heart of Soroptimist International's advocacy is its work across seven UN Centres, where our UN representatives ensure that the voices of women and girls are heard.
